NCHSAA adjusts postseason schedules
Postseason schedules have changed for wrestling, swimming and diving, and indoor track and field based on Tuesday’s announcement from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
Citing widespread snow and hazardous travel conditions across the state, the NCHSAA adjusted its calendar.
Here’s an overview of those changes:
Wrestling
The start of dual team state playoffs was pushed back again, now set for next week. Among the changes, the dual meet state finals won’t be completed until after the individual state tournament.
The first and second rounds for dual meets will be completed between Feb. 10-12. Those are contested on one day, though the date might now vary based on participating teams at each site.
The regional semifinals and finals, also a one-day event, will be either held either Feb. 16, 17 or 18, again with flexibility on which date is used. The finals will be Feb. 22 – a Sunday – in Greensboro, with those coming the day after the individual state finals.
At this time, there are no changes to boys’ individual regionals or state tournament.
** Meanwhile, girls’ wrestling regionals were to be this Friday and Saturday and are now listed for Feb. 10-12.
Swimming and diving
The championships were pushed back one week to Feb. 11-14.
Diving will be held at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh, using Feb. 11-13.
Swimming is contested at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Class 4A and Class 7A compete Feb. 12, Class 5A and Class 6A on Feb. 13 and Class 1A/2A/3A and Class 8A on Feb. 14.
Regionals last weekend were cancelled because of a wintry weather forecast. State qualifiers were determined based on past qualifying results and other metrics.
Indoor track and field
The state meets at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem were moved to Feb. 11-12 and Feb. 18-19.
Class 1A/2A and Class 3A will compete Feb. 11, while Class 6A and Class 4A will go Feb. 12.
Class 7A and Class 5A moved to Feb. 18, while Class 8A is Feb. 19.
