ASHEBORO — U.S. Marshals were involved in an arrest of a man with Asheboro ties connected to alleged drug trafficking and planned to extradite him back to North Carolina from New York.
The development involving Ryheem Miller played out when he was tracked down in a rural upstate New York city.
According to the Norwich (N.Y.) Evening Sun, Miller had been on the run as a fugitive after being arrested on drug charges in North Carolina.
Norwich Police Department and the U.S. Marshalls Service’s New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force took Miller into custody without incident at a Norwich residence, according to the Norwich Police Department.
Miller, 32, has been the focus of police work for parts of several years. As far back as 2016, he was arrested on a variety of drug charges by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
Upon his capture in Norwich, he was transported to nearby Broome County for arraignment in federal court by the U.S. Marshals Service.
In the Evening Sun report, Detective Sergeant Reuben Roach of the Norwich Police Department said, “The Norwich Police Department and the U.S. Marshals were able to collaborate and take a dangerous person into custody without anyone getting hurt, and that is a win for this community.”
Neither the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department nor the Asheboro City Police had any additional information regarding this case.
