RAMSEUR – Lucas Smith ran for two touchdowns and 131 yards as Eastern Randolph repelled visiting Asheboro 33-21 in Friday night’s non-conference game.
The Wildcats broke a 21-21 tie in the fourth quarter.
Eastern Randolph’s Julian Brooks returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown for the game’s final touchdown.
Cade McCallum and Kobe Walker each scored touchdown runs for the Wildcats (2-0).
Asheboro (1-1) scored on runs by Quincey Lee and Connor Brinton and on Logan Laughlin’s pass to Elijah Woodle, who made three catches for 84 yards.
Smith carried 28 times, while teammate James Combs racked up 109 yards on the ground.
Randleman 34, West Stokes 28: At Randleman, Tyshaun Goldston scored four touchdowns, John Kirkpatrick threw for four touchdowns and the Tigers are 2-0 for the second year in a row following the non-league home victory.
Goldson made three touchdown receptions while racking up 112 receiving yards. On defense, Goldston collected two turnovers, returning an interception 44 yards for a touchdown.
Southern Guilford 18, Providence Grove 13: At Climax, the visiting Storm struck quickly after falling behind and scored late in the game on a pass play to win the non-conference road game.
Brady Collins put the Patriots ahead with a touchdown pass to Andrew Thomas with about three minutes to play before a failed two-point conversion play.
Providence Grove was up 7-6 at halftime, with Jackson Lawver’s touchdown pass to Thomas coming before Carson Jones’ extra-point kick late in the first half.
The Patriots (1-1) play their next four games on the road. Southern Guilford is 1-1.
