Asheboro school counselor faces charges related to sexual activity with a student

ASHEBORO — Amber Walker, who had been employed by Asheboro City Schools, has been charged with having sexual conduct with an Asheboro High School student.

Amber Walker, 39, has been charged with two felony counts of sex act with a student, according to the arrest warrant. An arrest in the case was made May 8 by the Asheboro Police Department, stemming from an alleged incident two days earlier at the school.

Police said she was on the Asheboro faculty at the time of the arrest. She’s no longer employed in the district, school officials said.

“Asheboro City Schools is aware that a former employee of the district has been taken into custody in connection with alleged inappropriate activity,” the district said in a statement. “This matter is currently being handled through the criminal justice system. Due to state and federal privacy laws, we are unable to provide further details at this time.”

Walker was a school counselor since February 2018.

Walker had a court appearance before Judge Scott Etheridge. She posted a $50,000 bond at a hearing this week.
