Brannon receives Eastern League honor

Former Randleman baseball player Brooks Brannon was named the Player of the Week in the Eastern League earlier this month.

Brannon, a catcher who has been converted to a first baseman, plays for the Portland Sea Dogs, who are the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

Brannon batted 9-for-15 with three home runs, one triple and two doubles across a four-game stretch. He drove in 11 runs and scored three times. He capped the stretch by going 4-for-4 with a home run and five runs batted in on Mother’s Day against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Brannon missed the first few weeks of the season because of hand surgery. He added two more home runs during the past week, giving him seven across 17 games.
