CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Providence Grove alum Emma Mazzarone was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament softball team after helping Virginia Tech to the championship game.

Florida State topped the Hokies 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Mazzarone, a junior pitcher, struck out 21 batters in 10 1/3 innings covering three appearances in the tournament. She fanned four batters in two innings of the title game.

Tournament opponents batted .158 off Mazzarone, who recorded a 1.74 earned run average in those outings.

Mazzarone struck out a career-high 14 batters in third-seeded Virginia Tech’s 3-1 victory against sixth-seeded Virginia in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, she struck out three Duke batters in 1 1/3 innings of relief to earn a save in the 5-0 conquering of the second-seeded Blue Devils.

Prior to the tournament, Mazzarone was named to the All-ACC second team.

Virginia Tech received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, assigned to the Baton Rouge site with No. 16 national seed LSU as host. The Hokies meet Sun Belt Conference champion South Alabama in their first game Friday, while Akron takes on LSU in the other first-day game at that venue.
