GREENSBORO — Eastern Randolph senior Mirianna Corea was champion in two events in last week’s Class 3A track and field state championships last week at North Carolina A&T.
Randleman’s Jazai Cassady and Asheboro’s Aaron Tyson also won state titles in their respective classifications and events.
Here’s a rundown of results from area entrants:
Class 3A
Corea won the girls’ shot put with a toss of 38 feet, 3 inches and captured the discus with a heave of 121-11.
Corea won the discus in 2024 and captured the shot put last year, but this time she won both.
Other top-eight place finishers in the meet included third place for Providence Grove’s Laurel Bernhardt in the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 32.8 seconds. Wheatmore’s Scarlett Hildreth (5:35.39) was fifth in the race.
Bernhardt also was fifth in the 800 (2:31.15), with Hildreth sixth in that race in 2:31.38.
Eastern Randolph’s Roxanne Davis was fifth in the high jump at 5-0
Providence Grove’s Lyndsay Browder took sixth in the 300 hurdles (49.80).
Providence Grove’s 3,200 relay placed seventh in 11:15.75.
For the boys, Eastern Randolph’s Caden Revelle placed fifth in the high jump at 6-0.
Class 4A
Cassady, a senior, won the boys’ triple jump with an effort of 46 feet.
Teammate Izaiah Troxler was fourth in the shot put (48-3¾) and Bryson Nall of the Tigers was fourth in the 400 (51.14). Matthew Bowman was seventh in the pole vault (11-0).
Southwestern Randolph’s Kaiden Mabe finished sixth in the 400 in 51.40.
For girls, Randleman’s Alexis Vaughn was fourth in the shot put in 32-10¾. In the same event, Uwharrie Charter Academy’s Brennan Thomas was fifth in 32-8½.
Class 6A
Tyson finished his high school career with a busy agenda Saturday, winning the boys’ pole vault with an effort of 14 feet. That provided a 1-foot margin on runner-up Jack Thomas of Middle Creek.
Tyson also placed fifth in the long jump (21-9), fifth in the triple jump (45-5) and sixth in the high jump (6-2).
Teammate Juan Pablo Munoz was the discus runner-up at 171-8.
Asheboro’s Michael Mark was fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.29).
In girls’ competition, Asheboro’s Jalaya Showers ended up third in the 100 in 12.05. Showers was eighth in the 200 (25.57).
