RANDLEMAN — A teenage boy fell into a hole while on a fishing outing near Worthville Dam and needed to be transported to a hospital last week.
Initial reports said that the youth was airlifted with life-threatening injuries.
Randolph County EMS said the individual fell into a shaft late in the afternoon of April 15 at what’s an abandoned mill site. That was the location of a 2024 fire that destroyed the mill.
The youth’s fall has been estimated at about 30 feet.
Reports from the Randleman Fire Department said responders were lowered into the hole to assist in hoisting the youth out.
Asheboro firefighters and AshRand Rescue also assisted on the scene.
