CHAPEL HILL — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced this week that commissioner Que Tucker will retire effective October 1.
She has been NCHSAA commissioner since December 2015, becoming the first woman and first African American to hold the position. The Reidsville native joined the NCHSAA staff in 1991 following two seasons as an assistant women’s basketball coach at North Carolina State under Kay Yow.
After attending Mars Hill and leading the women’s basketball team in scoring, her professional stops included time in public schools at West McDowell Junior High Scholl and Reidsville High School.
Tucker was inducted into the NCHSAA Hall of Fame in 2012 and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2024.
