Prep baseball: Four Randolph County teams receive first-round byes for states

Several Randolph County teams received first-round byes for the baseball state playoffs when those brackets were unveiled Monday morning.

Randleman is the No. 2 seed in the Class 4A East Region, while also on that bracket is No. 4 seed Uwharrie Charter Academy and No. 6 seed Southwestern Randolph. All three teams received first-round byes, meaning they’ll be home for Friday’s second round.

Randleman (20-4) will take on the winner between No. 15 seed Southwest Onslow and No. 18 seed Reidsville. UCA (17-7) will clash with either No. 13 seed First Flight or No. 20 seed West Craven. Southwestern Randolph (16-7) will encounter either No. 11 seed Nash Central or No. 22 seed Carrboro.

Class 3A

Trinity holds the No. 4 seed for the West Region. After a bye, the Bulldogs (19-7) will be home to meet either No. 13 seed Chase or No. 20 seed East Davidson on Friday.

The other two state qualifiers from Randolph County in Class 3A are in the East Region.

Eastern Randolph (16-11) is the No. 10 seed with a home game Tuesday against No. 23 seed Northeastern. The winner earns a trip to seventh-seeded Princeton on Friday.

No. 13 seed Providence Grove (12-10) meets No. 20 seed Bartlett Yancey on Tuesday with the winner going to fourth-seeded Whiteville on Friday.

Wheatmore (2-19) didn’t make the Class 3A field.

Class 6A

Asheboro (13-12) is the West Region’s No. 17 seed, meaning a trip to No. 17 seed Scotland on Tuesday. The winner has a trip to top-seeded Alexander Central on Friday.
