Prep boys: Asheboro clicks in league outings
The start of play in the Triad Area Athletic Conference went well for Asheboro’s boys’ basketball team last week.
Asheboro pulled out a 49-47 victory against visiting Northern Guilford on Friday night.
Jeremiah Stanback provided 12 points for the Blue Comets.
Asheboro began conference play earlier in the week by registering a 65-63 road victory against Southeast Guilford with Nirey White posting 27 points and Jewell Barrett-Riggins supplying 20 points.
** Southwestern Randolph’s 60-47 home victory against Uwharrie Charter Academy came with 17 points from Trivett Kennedy and 12 points form Levi Dalke in the Four Rivers Conference opener.
Also in the Four Rivers Conference, Northwood cruised past visiting Eastern Randolph 78-50.
Earlier, Southwestern Randolph stopped visiting Chatham Central 64-55.
** Providence Grove and Wheatmore each won a pair of Central Carolina 3-A Conference games.
Providence Grove’s 63-47 home victory against Trinity came with Gabe McCoy’s 17 points and Andrew Thomas’s 16 points leading the way.
Max Routh and Jackson Lee both scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Providence Grove’s 70-62 victory against visiting West Davidson came with Thomas’ 21 points and McKoy’s 19 points. That outcome avenged a loss from the Patriots’ previous game in a holiday tournament.
Wheatmore’s Jordan Starkey poured in 21 points in a 71-49 road victory at East Davidson.
Avery Ivey had 20 points when Wheatmore beat host Thomasville 55-46.
** Randleman fell 67-39 at Central Davidson to end the week in Piedmont Athletic Conference play. The Tigers beat visiting Montgomery Central 75-17 when Connor Cassidy had 12 points in an earlier PAC game.
