Jalaya Showers won the girls’ 100 meters in 11.65 seconds to lead host Asheboro in the Class 6A Central Regional for track and field Saturday.
Across multiple regionals, numerous area athletes qualified for this week’s state meets with top-four finishes. The Class 4A states are slated for Wednesday, the Class 3A championships are set for Thursday and the Class 5A state meet is Saturday at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.
Asheboro’s Trynitee Brady placed third in the shot put (33-2) and teammate Sarah Reeder was fourth (6-6) in the pole vault. Asheboro’s Nyla Price was fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.58) and she claimed eighth in the 300 hurdles (51.72).
For the boys, Asheboro’s Aaron Tyson tied for first place the high jump with Southern Alamance’s Kristian Brown at 6-0.
Tyson claimed the pole vault at 14 feet, and teammate Barrett Trogdon was sixth at 8 feet. Tyson was fourth in the long jump at 22 feet, with teammates Chasyn Miller (fifth. 21-7¾) and Caden Kutschenko (eighth, 20-6¼)
Tyson’s triple jump of 44-4½ also was good for fourth place, while Kutschenko was seventh at 42-1.
Asheboro thrower Juan Pablo Munoz won the discus at 171-5.
In the 110 hurdles, Asheboro’s Michael Mark (15.35) and Dallas Brinton (15.92) were fifth and sixth. In the 300 hurdles, Mark placed fourth (40.35) and Brinton was sixth (41.96).
In the shot put, Jamarion Balfour was fourth at 47-2. Boone Hinesley was fifth in the shot put (46-9¼) and seventh in the discus (121-5½).
Asheboro was the boys’ team runner-up with 81½ points behind Greensboro Dudley’s 145.
Class 3A girls
Eastern Randolph’s Mirianna Corea won the discus (127-5) and shot put (40-½) in the Central Regional on Friday at High Point Athletic Complex.
Eastern Randolph’s Roxanne Davis won the high jump (5-0) and teammate Callie Craven was third (4-8).
Trinity’s Kayla Franklin won the triple jump at 33-11. Also placing were Wheatmore’s Kylyn Surratt (fourth, 31-7), Craven (sixth, 30-2) and Wheatmore’s Allie Owen (seventh, 30-1).
Franklin was sixth (1:04.24) in the 400.
Providence Grove’s Laurel Bernhardt won the 1,600 in 5:28.07. Wheatmore’s Scarlett Hildreth was third in 5:32.90.
In the 800, Bernhardt (second, 2:29.25) and Hildreth (fifth, 2:31.94) placed.
Wheatmore’s Olivia Hildreth was eighth in the 3,200 (15:44.62).
Providence Grove’s Lyndsay Browder was the 300 hurdles champion in 49.42.
Wheatmore’s Kahmarii McNeill was the runner-up in the 100 hurdles (18.21) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (53.42). Owen was eighth in the 300 hurdles (55.71).
Wheatmore’s Brooklyn Hittepole placed in the 200 (fourth, 27.48) and in the 100 (sixth, 13.33).
Providence Grove’s Karis Ferguson was fourth in the long jump (15-6).
Surratt was the pole vault runner-up at 8-6.
Wheatmore’s Paisley Boone was eighth in the shot put (28-11).
Eastern Randolph was sixth in the 400 relay (55.43). Wheatmore was eighth in the 800 relay (2:02.32).
In the 1,600 relay, Trinity (fourth, 4:34.20), Providence Grove (fifth, 4:40.03) and Wheatmore (eighth, 5:22.55) all placed.
In the 3,200 relay, Providence Grove (third, 10:57.72) and Wheatmore (seventh, 12:40.34) placed.
Class 3A boys
Providence Grove’s Nick Straughn was the triple jump runner-up at 43-3.
In the 100 hurdles, Providence Grove had Straughn (15.63) third and Conner Tozier (17.11) seventh.
Providence Grove’s Malachi Combo was second in the 300 hurdles (42.07).
Eastern Randolph’s Caden Revelle tied for second in the high jump (6-0). He was sixth in the 200 (23.15).
Trinity’s Giovanni Jaimes was seventh in the 400 (52.46) and Tommy Smithers was seventh in the 800 (2:15.07).
In the 1,600, Wheatmore’s Ryan Mabe (4:48.94) and Ayden Fitzgerald (4:50.32) were sixth and seventh. Fitzerald was sixth in the 3,200 (10:38.30).
In the discus, Wheatmore had Noah Wyrick (fourth, 115-7½), Brandon Santibanez (fifth, 113-1) and Maddox Russo (seventh (110-7½). Wyrick was third in the shot put (43-7) and teammate Delano Samuelson was fifth (41-7½).
Wheatmore’s Jacoby Helton was fifth in the pole vault (8-6).
Wheatmore was seventh in the 100 relay (46.63) and seventh in the 1,600 relay (3:47.34) and eighth in the 3,200 relay (9:39.97). Providence Grove was seventh in the 800 relay (1:36.37) and the 3,200 relay (9:39.80).
Class 4A
In Central Regional competition at High Point, Randleman had champions with Jazai Cassaday in the boys’ triple jump and Izaiah Troxler in the boys’ shot put.
Uwharrie Charter Academy’s Brennan Thomas was the winner in the girls’ shot put.
