SEAGROVE — The annual Seagrove Woodfire Weekend is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the role of wood firing in creating ceramics.
This is a studio driving tour held at individual potteries from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day in Seagrove. Fourteen pottery shops are participating. Admission is free.
Organizers said that flames have been started for a few weeks as potters prepare their kilns. Demonstrations will be held for visitors to witness.
The potters will represent traditional and contemporary, creating a variety of finished pots.
“Some of us can trace our family history back hundreds of years to farmers who used the local clay to craft wares from clay here in Seagrove going back eight generations,” said Ben Owen III, a Seagrove potter. “Others have been drawn to the potters area after studying in faraway places like Estonia and Japan and bring unique techniques to the community.”
Maps showing the participating shops will be available in Seagrove.
