Southwestern Randolph’s softball team heads back to Greensboro seeking another state championship.

The Class 4A state finals will be held at UNC Greensboro, with the Cougars taking on West Stanly on Friday and Saturday.

The best-of-3 series begins at 5 p.m. Friday. Game 2 is set for 11 a.m. Saturday. If a third game is needed, it’s slated to start at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Southwestern Randolph captured a 2024 state title with that championship series vs. Midway conducted at UNCG.

Southwestern Randolph (23-4) and West Stanly (26-6) haven’t met since they had one meeting in consecutive seasons from 2022-24. West Stanly won in 2022 and Southwestern Randolph won in each of the next two years, with all the matchups coming during the regular season.

Last week, Southwestern Randolph swept Randleman in the best-of-3 finals in the East Region. West Stanly needed three games to dismiss Foard in the West Region finals.

The Class 5A state finals also will be conducted Friday and Saturday at UNCG. That pits East Region champion West Carteret against West Region winner Enka. Those games are slated for 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Saturday (or 5 p.m. Saturday if the Class 4A finals is decided in two games).
