Southwestern Randolph wins Game 1 of softball state finals

GREENSBORO — Southwestern Randolph’s softball team is one victory away from winning a state championship for the second time in three years.

The Cougars topped West Stanly 8-3 in Game 1 of the Class 4A state finals Friday at UNC Greensboro.

Southwestern Randolph goes for the title in Game 2 at 11 a.m. Saturday. If West Stanly evens the series, the decisive game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday.
