NEW LONDON — The Southwestern Randolph High School men’s soccer team bounced back from a season-opening loss to Montgomery Central last week with a decisive 6-1 win against over the North Stanly Comets Tuesday night. The Cougars dominated possession throughout the game and went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. A pair of goals were netted by junior Steven Vences with additional talleys coming from freshmen Berni Zuniga and Rudolfo Fiscal. Sophomore Adam Roberts and senior Miguel Vences each added goals to finish the game.
The team showed their chemistry by moving the ball with connective passes resulting assists on five of the six goals scored. Steven Vences, Edwin Arroyo, Miguel Vences, Yahir Flores, and Cristian Rios each had assists for the Cougars.
The Cougars will look to continue their winning ways against North Stanly with a rematch at Ivey B. Luck Stadium in Asheboro on Monday, Aug. 30 at 6pm. North Stanly will play host to Montgomery Central Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 6pm in New London before coming to SW Randolph next week.
