ASHEBORO — The City of Asheboro Council met last Thursday with the proposed 2022-23 fiscal year budget at the top of the agenda. The proposed 2022-23 budget is $61,207,222 of which $42,263,842 is the general fund and $18,493,380 is the water and sewer fund. City Manager John Ogburn called the budget adjustments “the bare minimum” needed to attract and keep employees and forecasted wages would “most likely need to be adjust even higher in the near future” in his memo to the city council ahead of the budget meetings. ASHEBORO — The City of Asheboro Council met last Thursday with hearings for two residential projects and the presentation of the final report on the city’s sewer system on the agenda. While no decision is imminent, the topic of allowing alcoholic beverages to be possessed outside of restaurants and bars was also discussed in the public comments. Freese and Nichols, Inc. presented their final report and findings for the city’s sanitary sewer collection system before the council. Republican Walker Moffitt is top vote-getter ASHEBORO — In an off-year election where Republicans flexed their muscle in municipal elections, the only Republican candidate for Asheboro City Council received the most votes in a race for four seats. Incumbent Walker Moffitt, the lone GOP candidate on the Asheboro ballot, received more than 1,325 votes. His fellow incumbent Clark Bell received the second-most votes. Newcomers Bill McCaskill and Kelly W. Heath will join the city council. Incumbent Katie L. Snuggs finished fifth in a race where the top four vote-getters win seats. Delilah Perkins Warner was sixth.
