ASHEBORO – The Badcock Home Furniture & More store at 837 East Dixie Drive in Asheboro is closing as the company is going out of business. There were more than 380 stores in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. Rue21, a store specializing in teen apparel, filed for bankruptcy this spring and closed its stores. Asheboro Mall was previously called Randolph Mall. ASHEBORO – The City of Asheboro in association with Friday Night Bluegrass welcomes for the first time Mountain Blessings to Sunset Theatre on Friday night. The show in downtown Asheboro is set for 7 p.m. Tickets lost $10. Friday Night Bluegrass is a reoccurring program of the Sunset Theatre that presents local as well as regional bluegrass talent on the third Friday of the month. Mountain Blessings is based in Mount Airy and surrounding towns. Water and sewer rates to go up ASHEBORO — The Asheboro City Council has been presented a budget that doesn't recommend a property tax increase. At the board's June meeting, the 2024-25 annual operating budget was set to total $71.5 million. That keeps the tax rate even at $0.71 per $100 valuation. A large portion of the budget — just under $22 million — is set aside for public safety, with Asheboro police getting a $13 million allocation and firefighters nearly $8 million.
