ASHEBORO — Asheboro’s summer concert series is expanding. After assessing interest based on an event on a Friday night last August, it was determined to add another series in addition to the popular outdoor concerts at Bicentennial Park. “It was a good turnout, so this year we assume it’s going to be the same,” said Taylor Crawford, who’s Sunset Theatre coordinator for the City of Asheboro. “And now we’re going to make it a series. Bossong Memorial golf tournament raises funds for YMCA

ASHEBORO — A rain-delay did not dampen the spirits of over 100 golfers who came out to support the local YMCA on Friday. Rain threatened the Sam Bossong Memorial Golf Tournament at Pinewood Country Club and the single-round tournament was stopped briefly for a thunderstorm but teams ultimately returned to the course to complete the 22nd iteration of the tournament.  This year’s winning team of Chad Clark, Shawn Hogan, Clint Smith and Mark Vuncannon shot a 49 which included five eagles on holes 3, 4, 6, 7 and 16. ASHEBORO – The City of Asheboro Council met Thursday where they finally made a decision in regards to the Downtown Asheboro Social District.  The debate on the creation of the Downtown Asheboro Social District continued from the last meeting and upon the conclusion of public comments, the council voted in favor of creating the district with one dissenting vote. ASHEBORO – The Randolph County Board of Commissioners met Monday with multiple budget items on the agenda as well as to provide some clarification in regards to the new fire districts. Asheboro  |  track and field  Lovingood-Smith won three individual events as the Blue Comets were overwhelming winners in the Mid-Piedmont Conference championship last week at Oak Grove. Lovingood-Smith, a senior, won the high jump with an effort of 4 feet, 8 inches, claimed the long jump at 15-7 and captured the triple jump at 36-6. This was all part of Asheboro’s title effort. The Blue Comets rang up 157 points compared to runner-up Central Davidson’s 93. Asheboro also had an individual winner in the shot put with Morgan Williams’ toss of 29-4½.
