Asheboro to hold ‘Sip & Shop’ to draw people downtown

ASHEBORO — A new event organized to bring customers to downtown Asheboro is scheduled for later this week. “Sip & Shop” is described as an opportunity for residents and visitors to taste specialty wines while exploring businesses. It will be held from noon-4 p.m. Feb. 22. Attendees can sample wines at participating businesses, stretching from Worth Street to Church Street. “I think it’s a fun event,” said Addie Corder of Downtown Asheboro Inc. “It’s a chance to explore downtown.” Tickets are required, with a cost of $23 in advance and $33 on the day of the event. ASHEBORO – This weekend’s inaugural Zoo City StrEAT Fest in downtown Asheboro is a celebration of several ventures. Addie Corder, executive director of Downtown Asheboro Inc., said it’s a chance to recognize North Carolina Zoo’s 50th anniversary along with outdoor activities. There will be outdoor dining, a pop-up farmers’ market and themes associated with Earth Day. “We’ve been able to have so many activities associated with this,” Corder said of StrEAT Fest, which runs from 5-8 p.m. Saturday.
