Four Cougars confirm football plans

ASHEBORO — Four football players from Southwestern Randolph intend to play collegiately – and some of them will continue to be teammates. They made those plans clear with Friday’s ceremony in the school gym. Julian Mosley, Easton Gravely and Owen Whelan have committed to play for Guilford College, a Division III program in Greensboro. Noah Stills is heading to Anderson University, a Division III school in Indiana. Whelan played as a fullback and linebacker for the Cougars. Mosley spent time as a receiver and defensive back. Asheboro’s Davidson takes second in N.C. Amateur

JEFFERSON – Asheboro golfer Sam Davidson has made a habit of runner-up finishes. Davidson tied for second place in the North Carolina Amateur, a four-round event that ended Sunday. The winner was UNC Wilmington golfer Walker Isley of Oak Island. Isley shot a 3-under-par 281 at Jefferson Landing. Davidson, a rising senior at Guilford College, and Winston-Salem’s Davis Womble, a former college golfer for Wake Forest, finished at 1-under. Davidson was also the runner-up in the Asheboro City Amateur earlier this month. In the N.C. Amateur, Davidson shot rounds of 68, 72, 74, and 69. The final-round score was the…
