Heading into this week with an 18-4 overall record and 11-0 mark in PAC play, the Tigers could sew up a perfect league mark by winning Tuesday night’s finale against visiting Trinity. Home victory vs. Southwestern Randolph keeps record perfect in league play RANDLEMAN – Looks like there’s going to be hesitation if there’s a changing of the guard in Piedmont Athletic Conference girls’ basketball. Randleman, which has ruled the league in recent seasons, is the lone undefeated team in PAC play entering this week. Alex Raymundo and Kolby Garner collected the individual titles. “They just wrestled tough,” Randleman coach Andrew Molina said. “I think it being two days was good for them, and getting pins helped.” Raymundo, a 106-pound sophomore, pinned Carson Giannotti of Southern Alamance in 4:35 of the final after an earlier pin and decision. “Just went hard and wrestled,” Raymundo said.…

Some big scoring outputs were highlights in last week’s limited high school basketball schedule. The biggest of those came in a boys’ game. Dominic Payne of Trinity poured in 53 points in a 78-72 loss at Southern Guilford. That came one night after Payne’s 44 points in a 77-41 whipping of host East Davidson. Asheboro’s Jerquarius Stanback posted 25 points in a 53-39 road victory at Providence Grove. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Edison Hernandez

Randleman, football The senior running back ran for more than 1,000 yards for the Tigers. He was a big contributor to a high-powered offense. Hernandez reached the 100-yard mark on the ground in half of the team’s 12 games. He scored touchdowns on 13 rushes. Hernandez was the man running threat for the Tigers with no other player on the team reaching the 200-yard mark for the season. Randleman finished the season with a 10-2 record.

Randleman, boys’ soccer Garcia has been among the leading scorers for the Tigers during their breakthrough season. The Tigers averaged five goals per game during three victories last week. Garcia scored in each of those games for a total of five goals for the week. Garcia is among a group of seniors who’ve helped Randleman rack up a 15-6 record through last week. Before this year, the Tigers had five consecutive seasons without a double-figure win total.

RANDLEMAN – John Kirkpatrick threw two touchdown passes and ran for another touchdown in undefeated Randleman’s 53-14 trouncing of visiting Asheboro in Friday night’s non-conference football game. Edison Hernandez scored on two touchdown runs and Randleman (5-0) never trailed. Kirkpatrick completed 19 of 28 throws for 310 yards. Tyshaun Goldston made a touchdown catch and racked up 174 receiving yards on eight receptions. Asheboro (1-3) scored on Quincy Lee’s 2-run and Hamza Khan’s 68-yard pass connection to Ben Luck.
