Randolph County will have entrants in three classifications in the high school track and field state championships.
Led by a strong effort by Randleman in Class 2A regionals, there will be some high seeds for the meets at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.
The Class 1A and Class 3A state meets are set for Friday. The Class 2A and Class 4-A state competitions will be held Saturday.
Here’s a look at regional results:
Class 2A
Randleman has seven qualifiers in the state meet, though senior Chase Farlow is entered in three boys’ events. Gracie Beane and Jaquline McDaniel advanced in two girls’ events apiece based on results in the Midwest Regional on Saturday at High Point Athletic Complex.
Farlow, the reigning state champion in the high jump, also qualified in the long jump and triple jump.
Farlow won the regional high jump at 6 feet, 6 inches with Wheatmore’s Finley Bryant third at 6-0. Farlow was first in long jump (22-11½) and triple jump (44-1).
McDaniel won the high jump at 5-4, edging Beane who cleared the same height. Teammate Ava Jones was seventh at 4-10.
Beane won the triple jump at 35-6, with teammate Janiyah Brooks seventh at 30-6 and Trinity’s Kayla Franklin eighth at 28-10.
McDaniel was the runner-up in the long jump (17-3), with Brooks fifth at 15-5.
Randleman boys Jay Richards (pole vault), Matthew Bowman (pole vault), Triston Chriscoe (110 hurdles) and Ty Moton (shot put) had top-four regional finishes.
Richards (11-6) and Bowman (11-0) were second and third in the pole vault.
Chriscoe was second in the 110 hurdles (15.13 seconds) and Providence Grove’s Jackson Rhyne was fifth (15.48). Chriscoe was sixth in the triple jump (41-11¼).
Moton’s toss of 46-10 in the shot put was good for fourth place. Moton was seventh (125-4) in the discus and teammate Izaiah Troxler was eighth (124-0).
Also making it to states in Class 2A are Wheatmore’s Scarlett Hildreth (girls’ 1,600) and Bryant (boys’ high jump) and Providence Grove’s Lauren Bernhardt (girls’ 800).
Hildreth (5:38.20) and Bernhardt (2:31.47) were both fourth in the regional. Bernhardt also was sixth in the 1,600 (5:52.34).
Malachia Combo of Providence Grove was eighth in the 300 hurdles (43.05).
Wheatmore’s 400 relay of Seth Hollern, Kase Wilson, Daylin Ludwick and Dakota Ludwick placed eighth in 44.36. The same quartet was eighth in the 800 relay in 1:32.72.
Trinity’s Giovanni Jaimes, Riley Foster, Tommy Smithers and Andrew Cox ended seventh in the 3,200 relay in 8:51.93.
Wheatmore’s 3,200 relay of Emma Davidson, Lyda Madison, Olivia Hildreth and Scarlett Hildreth finished seventh (11:54.31).
Southwestern Randolph’s Kiersten Litell was seventh in the girls’ 300 hurdles (51.40).
Randleman’s Bryson Nall scored in the 400 with an eighth-place finish.
Class 1A
Going to the state meet will be Eastern Randolph’s Mirianna Corea in the discus and shot put and teammate Roxanne Davis in the high jump.
Corea was first in the discus at 121-6, while she placed second in the shot put at 35-2¼ in the Midwest Regional at North Stokes in Danbury.
Davis was the high jump winner at 5-0, while teammate Callie Craven was sixth at 4-6.
Class 3A
Asheboro’s state qualifiers are Aaron Tyson (long jump, pole vault) and Juan Pablo Munoz (discus) on the boys’ side, while Rebecca Wilson (high jump) on the girls’ side.
In regionals at Concord, Munoz’s throw of 143-11 was second in the discus.
Tyson ranked second in the pole vault at 12-6 and had a fourth-place long jump at 21-4¾. He also was fifth in the triple jump (44-8).
Elijah Woodle of Asheboro’s boys scored with a seventh-place spot in the 100 (11.03). The Blue Comets were fifth in the 400 relay in 43.39 with Luke Brumley, Jalial Timmons, Michael Mark and Woodle.
Wilson had a high jump of 4-10 for fourth place.
