There was little movement in the Piedmont Athletic Conference baseball standings this week with a slate of games rained out or suspended. But Randleman inched closer to another conference championship. The Tigers have won or shared regular-season league titles every year since a second-place spot in 2009. Randleman rode six innings of pitching from John Kirkpatrick to an 8-2 home victory against Providence Grove. Kirkpatrick also had two hits and scored two runs. Tate Andrews scored two runs. Faith Christian, girls’ soccer She’s one of two seniors on the team, which has produced a recent uptick on offense. Faith Christian is the reigning North Carolina Christian School Association’s Class 2-A state champion. Gaines was a member of that 2024 title team. The Eagles took a three-game winning streak into this week, outscoring those opponents by a combined 18-2 score. The victories in the streak came on the road, including last week’s 8-0 defeat of Liberty Christian in Durham.

Randleman Chamber receives scholarship

RANDLEMAN — The Randleman Chamber was awarded a scholarship for executive director Jeff Freeman to attend a fall management conference in South Carolina. That was announced during the Carolinas Association of Chambers of Commerce Executive last month in Chapel Hill. In all, 35 scholarships were awarded to CACCE members. Chambers receiving scholarships similar to Freeman were representing the Alleghany County Chamber, Anson County Chamber, Greater Topsail Area Chamber and Stanly County Chamber. Also, the Archdale-Trinity Chamber was awarded one of 22 scholarships to assist with registration. Prep roundup: Cougars stand tall in PAC softball; UCA girls have strong soccer stretch

Southwestern Randolph’s Macie Crutchfield struck out eight in the Cougars’ 8-0 home victory against Uwharrie Charter Academy in Piedmont Athletic Conference softball last week. The result meant that the Cougars have defeated every PAC team without a loss during their first time through the conference schedule. Asheboro’s Diamond McDowell receives All-American honor

From Asheboro to All-American Diamond McDowell of Asheboro was named a Division II All-American for women’s basketball. The senior forward for Anderson University in South Carolina was recognized by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. She was placed on the third team. McDowell averaged 18.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. McDowell was named the Most Valuable Player of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament after leading the Trojans to the championship last month. She had 22 points and 14 rebounds in the championship game when Anderson defeated Coker 64-58. McDowell was the leader in Division II defensive rebounding with 9.6…

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jonah Campbell

Southwestern Randolph, baseball Campbell was the winning pitcher when Southwestern Randolph defeated Randleman last week to end a long losing streak in the series. Campbell, also a senior infielder, has been a contributor at the plate as well. Campbell, who was an All-Piedmont Athletic Conference selection last year, has committed to play collegiately for Brevard. The Cougars had five victories through March, putting them in position to potentially reach at least a 10-win season for the first time since the abbreviated 2021 season.

ASHEBORO — Four football players from Southwestern Randolph intend to play collegiately – and some of them will continue to be teammates. They made those plans clear with Friday’s ceremony in the school gym. Julian Mosley, Easton Gravely and Owen Whelan have committed to play for Guilford College, a Division III program in Greensboro.
