ASHEBORO — Randolph Health announced Monday that it will lift universal masking requirements for patients, visitors and team members at all facilities effective at 7 a.m. Tuesday. According to a release from Randolph Health, the decision to make masks optional was made in collaboration with other regional healthcare systems, including Novant Health, Atrium Health, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, CaroMont Health, and Cone Health. NC Zoo Evacuated Due to Bomb Threat

ASHEBORO – The North Carolina Zoo closed Monday because of a security threat, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and zoo reported. A bomb threat had been received at about 10:47 a.m. through electronic means and reported to law enforcement from a representative of North Carolina Zoo. A juvenile has been identified as the subject of the threat. Visitors and staff were evacuated. Later, zoo officials announced that 1,372 guests were evacuated. ASHEBORO — Moses Cone Memorial Hospital has filed a certificate of need application with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to relocate a linear accelerator and CT simulator to develop a new cancer center with medical and radiation oncology services. Search warrant leads to drug trafficking arrest in Asheboro

The Asheboro Police Department executed a search warrant at the Park Place apartment complex on S. Church Street this past week, which resulted in one arrest for drug trafficking. According to a police report, the department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit executed the search warrant and seized 15.1 grams of white power that field-tested positive as fentanyl, 22.4 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and over $700 dollars in cash. Tierra Meyon Johnson was arrested and charged with several felony drug charges, including the trafficking of opium/heroin.
