RANDLEMAN – Randleman will be the site for Friday night’s finals in the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournaments for boys’ and girls’ basketball. As the regular-season champion on the girls’ side, Randleman was designated as the host school for the finals. Quarterfinals were held Monday night, with semifinals set for Wednesday at the site of the higher-seeded teams. Undefeated Randleman is the favorite in the girls’ bracket. Spencer Hall | Wheatmore, boys’ swimming Hall capped his high school swimming career that included a spot in the state meet in all four seasons. The senior’s last visit to Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary resulted in last week’s third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in Class 1-A/2-A. He posted a time of 53.51 seconds in the final. Also in the meet, Hall posted a time of 22.11 seconds for a fifth-place spot in the 50 freestyle. He has signed to compete in college for Milligan.

GREENSBORO – Uwharrie Charter Academy came within a couple of matches of claiming a state championship in dual team wrestling. The Eagles rallied at times but ultimately came up short in a 39-30 loss to Avery County in the Class 1-A championship meet Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. TRINITY — Another local player has reached the 1,000-point milestone in girls' basketball. Trinity's Autumn Gentry accomplished the career feat in a 47-40 victory against Providence Grove Patriots on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs and Patriots played a close first half with the Bulldogs holding a two-point edge at the half. The Patriots battled back with a strong third quarter giving Providence Grove a four-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
