HIGH POINT – Professional baseball for the season has ended in the Triad. The High Point Rockers were eliminated in the Atlantic League’s South Division championship series Monday afternoon. The Gastonia Honey Hunters defeated the Rockers 9-3 in Game 5 of the best-of-5 series at Truist Point. The Honey Hunters scored in each of the last six innings. Eastern Randolph’s Norwood selected for Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas

Eastern Randolph lineman Jani Norwood was selected for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The game pitting top football seniors from North Carolina against top seniors from South Carolina will be held Dec. 16 in Spartanburg, S.C. Asheboro golfer places in North Carolina Super Seniors

MOORESVILLE – Asheboro’s Charlie Parks finished tied for 12th place in the 70-plus division of the North Carolina Super Senior Championship. Parks shot rounds of 77 and 73 for a 6-over total in competition conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association on Sept. 6-7 at Mooresville Golf Club. There were 47 entrants in the 70-plus division, which was won by Raleigh’s Dee Blankenhorn at 6-under (68, 70). He won by five shots on Robert Desjardins of Matthews. Todd Hendley of Columbus was the winner in the 65-and-older class with 7-under 137.
