Uwharrie Charter Academy won twice in the final week of the regular season to secure third place in the Piedmont Athletic Conference baseball standings.
The Eagles held off last-place Southwestern Randolph 8-1 and 3-2 in eight innings.
Jose Ramirez had three hits and three runs batted in the first matchup, with Logun Wilkins notching the pitching victory. UCA’s Brett Smith went the distance in the second game, outdueling Jonah Campbell, who also worked a complete game.
** Third-place Trinity defeated fourth-place Eastern Randolph twice by scores of 14-3 and 5-1. Trinity’s Walker Parrish drove in five runs in the two games combined, while Camden Nelson’s complete game from the mound was clutch in the second matchup.
** Providence Grove beat Wheatmore twice, winning 6-3 and 6-5. Andrew Thomas pitched six innings for the victory in the first meeting and Grant Underwood knocked in two runs in the rematch.
** Regular-season champion Randleman split two non-conference games this week. The Tigers topped visiting Union Pines 2-1 before falling to Christ the King by 5-2. Tate Andrews hit a two-run home run in the loss.
** Eastern Randolph played Southern Alamance in a non-conference game that ended in a 4-4 draw Friday night. The game was delayed in the seventh inning because of lightning and, after waiting, it eventually was called off, reverting to the last complete inning so it goes as a six-inning tie.
** In the Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament, Oak Grove ousted Asheboro 7-0 in the quarterfinals. That sent the Blue Comets to 9-16 overall record after they went 2-8 in regular-season league play.
