Prep girls: Cougars, Tigers, UCA collect victories
Southwestern Randolph’s girls’ basketball team won a couple of games against in-county opponents last week.
Southwestern Randolph’s Jordin George scored 19 points in a 68-28 road triumph against Trinity.
Then in Friday night’s 62-49 decision against visiting Providence Grove, George racked up 29 points and Maddie Strider had 12 points.
Laurel Bernhardt supplied 23 points and Adalyn Whitaker had 14 points for Providence Grove.
** Randleman’s Jacquline McDaniel racked up 26 points as the host Tigers beat Asheboro 44-37.
Asheboro coach Wes Luther bemoaned his decision to apply a late-game press and traps as that backfired with a couple of high-percentage opportunities for Randleman.
Maliyah Brady had 11 points for the Blue Comets.
Asheboro won earlier in the week with a 51-16 overwhelming of host Eastern Randolph with Laneane Scherer posting 16 points and Brady supplying 15 points.
Randleman rocked host High Point Central 60-38 with Bella Byman collecting 20 points in a Piedmont Athletic Conference game. The Tigers also won a league matchup with Lexington with a 55-48 road decision.
** Lainey Thomas had 14 points and Nevaeh Staples added 10 points when Uwharrie Charter Academy won 58-30 at Cedar Ridge.
UCA then went on the road for a 57-36 victory at North Stanly as Thomas notched 25 points.
