Asheboro hires new principal with ties to high school

ASHEBORO – Dr. Ryan Moody will start his job as the new principal of Asheboro High School in mid-July. He should know his way around. Moody’s hiring was announced last week. He comes after serving as principal of Morehead High School in Eden for four years. Moody replaces Dr. Penny Crooks, who has been with the city school system since 2003 and held the title of principal at the high school since 2019. She’s taking a position in the central office. Moody spent part of his youth in Asheboro schools. His mother, Nancy Moody, was an administrator for the city…

Two senior athletes from seven schools were recipients of the sportsmanship awards, which are accompanied by $500 scholarships. Recipients are selected by each school’s scholarship committee. Allred cleared the bar at 5 feet, 2 inches – the same height as winner Katarina Kepley of West Davidson along with East Carteret’s Latecyia Johnson and SouthWest Edgecombe’s Jer’Lisha Pridgen. Asheboro | girls’ soccer Arroyo helped spark the Blue Comets to three victories in a five-day span. It began when she scored three goals in a 4-2 road victory against Oak Grove in a Mid-Piedmont Conference game. In another Mid-Piedmont Conference game, Arroyo scored the first goal in Asheboro’s 3-1 victory against visiting Central Davidson. Arroyo knocked in three goals as the Blue Comets defeated host High Point Central 8-2 in their third game of the week. That was a non-league result. Gage Miller remembers the details of his final at-bat in the season opener for Asheboro’s baseball team. After that, it becomes a little less clear. Miller’s game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning sent the Blue Comets to a 5-3 victory against Chatham Central last week at Kiwanis Park in Asheboro. “That was something different right there,” Miller said. “My teammates were fired up.
