Eastern Randolph topped Wheatmore 11-4, beat Southwestern Randolph 5-1 and hammered Rockingham County 14-5. Gardner is a senior pitcher and utility player. He was the winning pitcher against Wheatmore, working six innings. He also went 3-for-3 with a home run and double at the plate in that game. Asheboro | girls’ soccer Arroyo helped spark the Blue Comets to three victories in a five-day span. It began when she scored three goals in a 4-2 road victory against Oak Grove in a Mid-Piedmont Conference game. In another Mid-Piedmont Conference game, Arroyo scored the first goal in Asheboro’s 3-1 victory against visiting Central Davidson. Arroyo knocked in three goals as the Blue Comets defeated host High Point Central 8-2 in their third game of the week. That was a non-league result. Wheatmore | girls’ soccer Comer has been a steady producer on offense for the Warriors. She’s often surrounded by high-scoring underclassmen. Comer recorded a goal and five assists in last week’s 10-1 rout of visiting Eastern Randolph in a Piedmont Athletic Conference game. Then in a 4-1 non-league triumph at Southwest Guilford, she supplied another assist. With the Warriors’ 8-1 whipping of visiting Southwestern Randolph on Monday, they improved 9-0, including a 3-0 PAC mark. Comer had a goal and an assist in that game. Comer, a senior, had a standout career on the school’s girls’ tennis team as well.

Elizabeth York | Randleman, girls’ basketball York, a junior guard, had three productive games as the Tigers advanced through three rounds of the Class 2-A state playoffs. She averaged 19 points in those games. It began when York piled up 22 points as Randleman stomped Shelby Burns 64-17 in the opening round. Next, she compiled 24 points in Randleman’s 64-53 victory against Wilkes Central. York tacked on 11 points in a 63-43 decision against Lincoln Charter. Those results left the Tigers with a 25-0 record going into a West Region semifinal against Shelby.

He scored a total of 41 points in the three games, giving the Blue Comets a lift with his backcourt play. His defensive work boosted Asheboro to some key rallies, particularly in the semifinal. Spencer Hall | Wheatmore, boys’ swimming Hall capped his high school swimming career that included a spot in the state meet in all four seasons. The senior’s last visit to Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary resulted in last week’s third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in Class 1-A/2-A. He posted a time of 53.51 seconds in the final. Also in the meet, Hall posted a time of 22.11 seconds for a fifth-place spot in the 50 freestyle. He has signed to compete in college for Milligan.
