Wheatmore, girls’ soccer Walls, a forward and midfielder, was one of the seniors on the Warriors’ state runner-up team. Walls was the fourth-leading scorer on an offensive powerhouse. She cranked out 11 goals and provided five assists. She also occasionally took corner kicks for the Warriors. Walls was honored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association with a Sportsmanship Award prior to the Class 2-A title game this month at UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Izabella Ringley

Wheatmore, girls’ soccer Ringley has been a reliable player for the Warriors, who are trying to complete another undefeated season. She’s a defender and midfielder. A senior, Ringley rates high on the team in steals. Through the Warriors’ first 21 games, she had tallied four goals and seven assists. Some of her best work might come on the defensive end in the rare times Wheatmore has been challenged. The Warriors gave up only eight goals during the regular season.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Maggie Lowe

Southwestern Randolph  |  girls’ soccer Lowe scored 27 goals across 22 games to pace the Cougars in that category. Lowe also finished her senior season with seven assists for the third-most total on the team. The Cougars posted a 14-7-1 record. That was the team’s most victories since 2017. Lowe landed a spot on the All-Piedmont Conference team following the previous season’s selection for the 2021 All-Mid-Piedmont Conference team when Southwestern Randolph competed in a Class 3-A league. Lowe had a team-best six goals in the shortened 2021 season, with the Cougars playing ten games.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kaylee McDonald

Trinity  |  girls’ soccer, basketball McDonald, a senior, wrapped up her high school career with a spot on the All-Piedmont Conference girls’ soccer team. McDonald was a goalkeeper for the Bulldogs. She also was a starter on the Trinity girls’ basketball team. McDonald ranked in the top three in many of Trinity’s basketball statistics.

Wheatmore  |  girls’ soccer   Bowman scored two goals to boost the Warriors in the Class 2-A state championship game. That resulted in a 4-1 victory against Clinton on Friday night in Cary. She was named Most Valuable Player of the title game. Bowman, a junior forward, was an instrumental part of Wheatmore’s 25-0-0 season that was capped by the school’s first state team championship. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kara Comer

Wheatmore  |  girls’ soccer Comer has been a steady producer on offense for the Warriors. She’s often surrounded by high-scoring underclassmen. Comer recorded a goal and five assists in last week’s 10-1 rout of visiting Eastern Randolph in a Piedmont Athletic Conference game. Then in a 4-1 non-league triumph at Southwest Guilford, she supplied another assist. With the Warriors’ 8-1 whipping of visiting Southwestern Randolph on Monday, they improved 9-0, including a 3-0 PAC mark. Comer had a goal and an assist in that game. Comer, a senior, had a standout career on the school’s girls’ tennis team as well.
