ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Izabella Ringley

Wheatmore, girls’ soccer Ringley has been a reliable player for the Warriors, who are trying to complete another undefeated season. She’s a defender and midfielder. A senior, Ringley rates high on the team in steals. Through the Warriors’ first 21 games, she had tallied four goals and seven assists. Some of her best work might come on the defensive end in the rare times Wheatmore has been challenged. The Warriors gave up only eight goals during the regular season.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Samuel Asbill

Eastern Randolph, baseball Asbill gave a strong pitching performance in one of Eastern Randolph’s two road victories last week in the Class 1-A state playoffs. Asbill, a junior right-hander, was listed for throwing 103 pitches when the Wildcats defeated Mt. Airy. This marks the second year in a row that the Wildcats have secured two victories in the state playoffs. Before that, they hadn’t won a state-playoff game since 2013.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Davis Gore

Asheboro, baseball Gore has been a steady performer for the Blue Comets on the baseball field this spring. He shares the team lead with six home runs, and he’s second among the Blue Comets with 18 runs scored. Gore is a catcher and utility player heading to Belmont Abbey for college. Asheboro won four of its last five games entering the Class 3-A state playoffs this week. Gore also played football for the Blue Comets.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Andrew Canter

Providence Grove, baseball Canter has been a key hitter and has supplied a huge boost on the mound for Providence Grove in his senior season. Canter, who also played football at the school, rolled up four pitching victories in the regular season. The Patriots bounced back following a rare losing season to hold a 13-9 mark at the end of the regular season. As a quarterback in his final season in football, he tossed 10 touchdown passes and threw for more than 1,000 yards.

Southwestern Randolph, softball Perdue had hits in all three of the Cougars’ games last week. Southwestern Randolph is rated as one of the top Class 2-A teams in the state. Already having secured the Piedmont Athletic Conference title, the Cougars will be aiming for postseason success beginning next week. Perdue, a senior, has provided boosts throughout the season. She scored a run in each of the team’s victories in PAC games last week. Uwharrie Charter Academy, baseball  Medinger has been a steady performer for the Eagles, and he’s one of the core veterans on the team.  UCA went 3-0 last week, including winning a pair of tight Piedmont Athletic Conference matchups with Eastern Randolph. Asheboro, girls’ soccer Flores has been a big part of Asheboro’s offense, and that has helped the Blue Comets in their first two Mid-Piedmont Conference games. A senior forward and striker, Flores has provided five goals and a team-leading five assists. She has regularly been one of Asheboro’s top threats. This continues a trend because she was second on the team in both goals and assists last year. Asheboro pulled out a pair of victories in Mid-Piedmont Conference play last week. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lanie McDaniel

Eastern Randolph, softball Eastern Randolph carried a four-game winning streak into spring break, and McDaniel did her part. Posting two hits in a Piedmont Athletic Conference victory against Randleman was among her contributions. McDaniel, a senior infielder, also drove in two runs in the Randleman game. She had a hit and scored a run in a 2-1 victory at Northern Guilford. She also scored in a one-run decision against Providence Grove. With six doubles and 13 runs batted in, she’s among the team leaders in several offensive categories.  McDaniel was an All-PAC girls’ golfer in the fall.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Tyler Kimball

Wheatmore, baseball Kimball has been a boost at the plate for the Warriors in their quest for a turnaround season. Wheatmore won three of four games in a seven-day span. That included two victories against Eastern Randolph in Piedmont Athletic Conference play and a non-league triumph at West Davidson. Earlier this month, Kimball, a senior, had a hit in each game against Randleman. He homered in one of those two games. The Warriors, who haven’t had a winning season since 2018, entered this week with a 5-5 overall record.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Cade Hill

Trinity, baseball Hill has helped Trinity to an unbeaten start in Piedmont Athletic Conference play through four games. In last week’s series-opening victory against Southwestern Randolph, the senior right-hander was the winning pitcher by working five innings and allowing one earned run in Trinity’s 16-6 romp. Hill also had a double in that game. The Bulldogs and defending champion Randleman were the only teams without a loss in league play through the first two weeks of the PAC season.
