Prep Notes: Girls’ players Gentry, York hit special marks

Senior Autumn Gentry became Trinity’s all-time leading scorer. She scored 14 points against visiting East Davidson to reach the record. The previous record of 1,252 was held by Jordan Parker. Randleman’s Elizabeth York, a senior guard, eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career. He racked up 32 points in a 66-53 victory at Jordan-Matthews. That was just the appetizer. He scored 27 points in a 61-45 victory against visiting North Carolina Leadership Academy. (PJ Ward-Brown/Randolph Record) Southwestern Randolph ruined the coaching debut for Asheboro’s Mike Headen in girls’ basketball last week. The host Cougars defeated Asheboro 52-49 in Friday night’s non-conference game. Headen was promoted from assistant coach to head coach during the summer upon the retirement of Don Corry. Trinity tops PG as Gentry tops 1,000 points for career

TRINITY — Another local player has reached the 1,000-point milestone in girls' basketball. Trinity's Autumn Gentry accomplished the career feat in a 47-40 victory against Providence Grove Patriots on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs and Patriots played a close first half with the Bulldogs holding a two-point edge at the half. The Patriots battled back with a strong third quarter giving Providence Grove a four-point lead entering the fourth quarter. Gentry, a junior, and her teammates dominated the fourth quarter, holding the Patriots to six points to punctuate Gentry's milestone night.
