Caraway creates program to lure driver commitments

SOPHIA — Caraway Speedway is putting together a program to reward drivers for their loyalty. It’s called “Caraway Strong” and the intent is to provide a more stable group of entrants for the speedway. “We’re starting to get the response,” general manager Darren Hackett said. “I think we’re going to be OK.” The speedway’s regular racing series begins with Sunday’s opening races in seven divisions. This is the 57th season for the track. To be part of the “Caraway Strong” program, drivers agree to compete in every points-paying event for their division across the course of the season. York wins feature race at Caraway Speedway

SOPHIA – Jason York posted a victory in the Late Models division at Caraway Speedway on Saturday night. York was ahead among seven drivers when the 56-lap event came to a close. Division points leader Blaise Brinkley was the runner-up, while Jamie York finished third. Johnny Baker won among 11 entries in the Mini Stocks. In other races, Justin Smith topped a 14-driver field to capture the U-Cars feature, Mike Chambers claimed the Challenger race and Rich Hunter won in the 602 Modifieds. Pennsylvania driver nabs spot for Caraway event

SOPHIA — Matt Hirschman, a Pennsylvania driver, became the first driver to secure a spot in November’s 19th annual John Blewett Memorial North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway. Hirschman did so by winning an open Modified Series event race at Star Speedway in New Hampshire. His $17,322.50 winnings for the result marked the largest payday of his career. There were 41 initial entries in the race. The next scheduled qualifier for automatic entry to the North-South Shootout comes Aug. 21 at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem. Bigger crowds at Caraway as season passes midpoint

ASHEBORO — The racing season has sped past the midway mark at Caraway Speedway, and there are encouraging signs, general manager Darren Hackett said.
