Southwestern Randolph selects second Hall of Fame class

ASHEBORO – There will be six inductees for the second class of the Southwestern Randolph Sports Hall of Fame. The group of Kaila Craven-Brandenburg, Lauren LaPlant, Randy Miller, Michael Wade Osborne, Donald Strider and Melissia Rogers Sutton comprise the induction class. The ceremony is set for Aug. 30. That night the inductees will be honored at halftime of the school’s football game against North Moore. This is the second class for the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Another honor is coming for Eastern Randolph football coach Burton Cates. (Randolph Record file photo) GRAHAM – Eastern Randolph’s Burton Cates, the winningest active high school football coach in North Carolina, is receiving hometown recognition. He’ll be inducted into the Graham Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday night. “Being from Graham all my life, it’s very special recognition,” Cates said. “What I’ve accomplished isn’t about me by any stretch. Asheboro Hall of Fame grows with Allgood, Moore, two wrestlers, basketball team

ASHEBORO – Dr. Tim Allgood spent 34 years working in various roles for Asheboro City Schools. Now he’s entrenched even more in the district’s history. Allgood, three others and the 1961-62 boys’ basketball team were inducted into the Asheboro Sports Hall of Fame on Friday night. “I think we all enjoy recognition,” Allgood said. Former tennis player and longtime coach Jay Moore and former wrestling standouts Sawyer Davidson and Dalton Cook were also inducted. The school has an induction class every-other year. TRINITY – Details are coming together for the first Trinity High School Athletics Hall of Fame, with the first induction class likely coming later this year. “Trinity has an extremely rich heritage,” athletics director Robert Mitchell said. “We’ve got years and years of great athletes and championships.
