The concert choir and advanced honors ensemble made up the group. The highlight was performing at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan. Southwestern Randolph set to induct first class into Hall of Fame

ASHEBORO – The first class for the Southwestern Randolph Hall of Fame will be inducted this week and it’s quite a blast from the past. Fourteen individuals were selected for the honor. A ceremony will be held in the school cafeteria Friday prior to the football game vs. Albemarle. The group will also be recognized at halftime of the game. The fathers of both athletics director Chris Chapman and football coach Seth Baxter are in the induction class. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Maddie Small

Southwestern Randolph, girls’ basketball Small had a couple of solid games last week in the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament. She’s a senior captain on a team that has several key underclassmen. Small, a forward, provided nine points when the Cougars defeated Trinity 47-46 in the PAC Tournament quarterfinals. She led Southwestern Randolph with 14 points in a 75-49 semifinal loss to Eastern Randolph.

‘Culinary Cougars’ set for pie sale

(Courtesy photo) ASHEBORO – The seventh annual holiday pie sale conducted by the Culinary Arts students at Southwestern Randolph High School is in the works. The bakers are called the “Culinary Cougars.” The deadline to order the pies is Friday. Pick-up or delivery will be Nov. 22. The Culinary Cougars will bake six varieties of pie from scratch to raise money for culinary competitions. For this year’s sale, students will prepare pies in time for Thanksgiving meals.
