RALEIGH – Kaitlyn Gainey of Asheboro is one of 30 first-year North Carolina State students selected as part of the Caldwell Fellows at the university. Gainey is a graduate of Southwestern Randolph. Caldwell Fellows are selected for demonstrating an aptitude for servant-leadership development. SWR senior is NC State scholarship finalist

RALEIGH — An Asheboro student has been named a finalist for N.C. State's top merit scholarship. Kaitlyn Ann Gainey, a senior at Southwestern Randolph High School, has been named a finalist for the Park Scholarship. The Park Scholarships program announced that 112 finalists were named from 2,260 applicants from across the United States. Gainey, who Randolph Record's Athlete of the Week in October, is the daughter of Stephen and Kelly Gainey of Asheboro. KAITLYN GAINEY Southwestern Randolph High School | Senior | Tennis Southwestern Randolph's Kaitlyn Gainey, a senior, completed Piedmont Athletic Conference play with a 10-0 singles record when the Cougars wrapped up the regular season by defeating Uwharrie Charter Academy 7-2. She was also part of a victory in a doubles match. Gainey plays No. 2 singles for the Cougars, who finished the regular season with an 11-4 overall record and 7-3 PAC mark.
