Dominic Payne of Trinity and Davonte Brooks of Eastern Randolph were in the same category at times. Payne poured in 41 points Friday in a 65-64 victory at Uwharrie Charter Academy. Eastern Randolph, football Thomas, a senior, had a solid final football season for the Wildcats, who had the longest postseason run among teams from Randolph County. Eastern Randolph finished with an 11-2 record. For the second year in a row, the team was undefeated in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Thomas was a receiver for the Wildcats, who averaged 36 points per game. He also has been a member of the school’s boys’ basketball program.

TRINITY – Providence Grove won the girls’ and boys’ team championships for cross country in vastly different manners in the Piedmont Athletic Conference on Wheatmore’s 3.1-mile course last week. The girls’ competition marked a tie between Providence Grove and Uwharrie Charter Academy with 34 points apiece using the five scoring runners from each team.
