Baseball tourneys coming to Asheboro; Southwestern Randolph has coaching change

ASHEBORO – High school postseason baseball – and some softball – will be happening in Asheboro even if there’s not an in-county team involved. Next week, Asheboro will be the host school for next week’s semifinal and final rounds in the Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament for both baseball and softball. Those matchups will come after quarterfinal games, which will definitely involve Asheboro, are contested at the site of the higher seeds. The baseball semifinals and final will be at McCrary Park. Randleman, softball ‌Ivey has made quite an impression as a pitcher and batter in the opening weeks of her freshman season for Randleman. The left-handed pitcher rolled up four victories in her first five decisions. She recorded 39 strikeouts in 31 innings. She also has come through with key hits for the Tigers, who won seven of their first eight games. Ivey posted two of the team’s first three home runs this season.
