(Carolinas Golf Association photo) Charlie Parks of Asheboro won the Carolinas Super Senior Championship’s 70-and-older division last week at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill. “I always love to play and I’m playing pretty good right now,” Parks said. Parks shot rounds of 71 and 67 for a total of 7-under-par 138. The Archdale man said the keys for him last weekend were “putting and the mental game.” Spell, a mental coach for college and high school golfers, posted a one-shot victory on Steve Kidd after three rounds at three different courses. Bossong Memorial golf tournament raises funds for YMCA

ASHEBORO — A rain-delay did not dampen the spirits of over 100 golfers who came out to support the local YMCA on Friday. Rain threatened the Sam Bossong Memorial Golf Tournament at Pinewood Country Club and the single-round tournament was stopped briefly for a thunderstorm but teams ultimately returned to the course to complete the 22nd iteration of the tournament.  This year’s winning team of Chad Clark, Shawn Hogan, Clint Smith and Mark Vuncannon shot a 49 which included five eagles on holes 3, 4, 6, 7 and 16. Out-of-state women top Asheboro golf qualifier

ASHEBORO – The top three spots from a U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur qualifier at Pinewood Country Club went to out-of-state golfers Sunday. Ann Marie Costello of Longs, S.C., Mariah Hopkins of Danville, Va., and Samantha Perrotta of Bordentown, N.J., all shot 2-over-par 74s to share medalist honors. The other three to advance to the national tournament Sept. 25-30 at Berkeley Hall in Bluffton, S.C., were Courtney Stiles (75) of Pinehurst, Jessica Younts (76) of Greensboro and Katie Kirk (77) of Charlotte.
