ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ty Moton

Randleman, basketball / football / track and field Moton has been part of some high-level competitions recently as he’s a key athlete for multiple Randleman teams. In last week’s Class 1A/2A state indoor track and field championships, Moton placed 14th in the shot put at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. Moton recorded a toss of 41 feet, 1½ inches. Moton had an 11th-place finish in the discus in the Class 2A outdoor state meet last spring. Randleman’s Farlow leaps to state title in indoor high jump

WINSTON-SALEM – Chase Farlow of Randleman notched a second individual state championship, this time in indoor track and field. Farlow, a senior, won the high jump in Friday’s Class 1A/2A state meet Friday at JDL Fast Track. Farlow cleared 6 feet, 10 inches to match the Class 1A/2A state meet record set by Tanner Anderson of East Burke in 2010. State championships: Asheboro’s Everhart excels in indoor meet; UCA’s Becker places in swimming

WINSTON-SALEM – Lance Everhart of Asheboro placed third in three events in the Class 3-A indoor track and field state championships Saturday at JDL Fast Track. Everhart cleared 6 feet, 4 inches in the high jump, posted a mark of 13-6 in the pole vault and leaped 22-3 in the long jump. Kai Matthews of Asheboro was fifth in the long jump (21-6). On the girls’ side, Jalaya Showers had the 11th-best time in the 55 dash at 7.33 seconds.
