Home victory vs. Southwestern Randolph keeps record perfect in league play RANDLEMAN – Looks like there’s going to be hesitation if there’s a changing of the guard in Piedmont Athletic Conference girls’ basketball. Randleman, which has ruled the league in recent seasons, is the lone undefeated team in PAC play entering this week. Yet it sure looked like an upset when the host Tigers defeated Southwestern Randolph. Audra Petty scored 15 points and Chenleigh Robinson had 11 points when Randleman won 47-41 on Friday night. Prep boys: Asheboro blows through tourney field

ASHEBORO – The Asheboro boys’ basketball team breezed through three games in the SportsTone.net Christmas Invitational on its home court. The tournament didn’t provide much variety for the Blue Comets, who defeated teams it had already defeated a total of five times earlier this season. The title game Friday night at least proved to be a rubber match, with Asheboro trouncing Randleman 63-41 after the teams split two earlier meetings. Randleman, girls’ basketball Petty is one of the returning players for the Tigers, who had a strong senior class last season. She has been up the task. Petty, a senior guard, posted 24 points against Asheboro and 27 points against Ledford in a pair of games last week. In Randleman’s first three games, Petty has averaged 26.3 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds. She also was credited with 2.7 steals per game. RANDLEMAN – Carter Revelle threw 39 yards to Nicah Taylor for a third-quarter touchdown in a 22-21 victory against previously undefeated Randleman on Friday night in the regular-season finale to determine the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship. The Wildcats (9-1 overall, 5-0 PAC) have gone unbeaten in 15 games in the conference’s current configuration. Revelle threw for two touchdowns, completing 12 of 16 passes for 162 yards.
