Sophia man claims $400,00 in lottery prize

RALEIGH – Matthew Wolfe of Sophia told NC Education Lottery officials that his winnings last week were “life-changing.”   He won the top prize of $400,000 among more than 51.5 million entries in the 2024 Multiply The Cash Second Chance drawing. After taxes and withholdings, he bagged about $286,000.   Wolfe told lottery officials he would use those funds to pay off his house.

SOPHIA – Caleb Heady won a late-lap showdown with Burt Myers in Saturday night’s SMART Modified Tour race at Caraway Speedway. Bobby Labonte, a former NASCAR Cup Series driver, made a late pass of Matt Hirschman to gain third place. Brian Loftin placed fifth. Earlier leaders in the race included pole sitter Jonathan Brown, Luke Fleming, Bobby Measmer Jr. and Labonte. The SMART Tour will return to the track in June. Ward claims Late Models win in Caraway opener

SOPHIA – There was a different driver in a certain Late Models car but a familiar name behind the wheel when Caraway Speedway’s points season opened Sunday. It began the 57th season at the track. Third-generation driver Trevor Ward guided a car owned by former track champion Jay Hedgecock to the victory in the 60-lap race. Ward led for about the last 40 laps after getting around pole sitter Coy Beard, the 2020 champion who finished as the runner-up. Randolph County site selected for Duke economic development program

ASHEBORO — An industrial site in Sophia could soon be marketed nationally to companies seeking places to expand or relocate. A 170-acre tract on Wall Brothers Rd was selected by Duke Energy for inclusion in the utility company’s annual economic development program. Duke has selected nine properties in eight counties across North Carolina for inclusion in its 2021 Site Readiness Program to enhance the readiness of the sites for business and industrial development.
