UCA, Trinity hold top seeds for dual team wrestling state playoffs

Defending Class 1-A state champion Uwharrie Charter Academy and undefeated Trinity both received top seeds in their respective regions for the wrestling dual team state playoffs, which begin Saturday with two rounds. UCA (30-1) is home against No. 16 seed North Rowan (1-17) to open East Region competition. Eighth-seeded Northeast Carolina Prep (23-4) and ninth-seeded Eastern Randolph (19-9) also will meet at UCA. Trinity completed a sweep of the Piedmont Athletic Conference in duals by winning 70-0 last week at Eastern Randolph. It’s tight atop the Piedmont Athletic Conference boys’ basketball schedule near the midway mark of the league slate. Trinity suffered its first PAC loss of the season when host Eastern Randolph won 81-77 in Friday night’s game at Ramseur. That was a rematch of last February’s PAC Tournament championship game on the same court, with the Wildcats winning that one as well. Eastern Randolph also entered this week with just one PAC defeat. TRINITY – Trinity’s wrestling team has rolled into the final week of the regular season with numerous accomplishments and visions of even more. The Bulldogs held a 29-0 record after posting five more victories in Saturday’s Patriot Duals. RANDLEMAN – Randleman doesn’t have a game on this week’s boys’ basketball schedule. When the Tigers return to play, there’s a showdown looming. On Jan. 23, there’s a clash at Trinity that looms large on the Piedmont Athletic Conference landscape. Last week, Randleman toppled visiting Uwharrie Charter Academy 67-44 with Greg Price’s 22 points and Tyshaun Goldston’s 20 points leading the way. ASHEBORO – It was quite a week for Asheboro’s boys’ basketball team. The Blue Comets topped a strong in-county team to wrap up non-conference play and then won its Mid-Piedmont Conference opener. It all added up to a 10-game winning streak entering this week.
