Ward captures another Rusty Harpe Memorial

SOPHIA — Dylan Ward won for the third time in the Rusty Harpe Memorial.
Ward topped the field in Saturday night’s racing at Caraway Speedway.
Ward was the fast qualifier, but after a redraw he had to chase down Gary Causey.
By the end, Ward held off Taylorsville’s AnnaBeth Crum, while Dalton Ledbetter was a close third followed by Causey and Ross Dalton. Points leader Bryson Brinkley placed sixth.
In the SMART Modified Tour race, Danny Bohn took the checkered flag in the 99-lap showcase. Bohn held more than a two-second advantage on Joey Coulter, while Carson Loftin placed third, followed by Ryan Newman and SMART points leader Luke Baldwin.
Defending division champion Jaxson Casper was the winner in the 602 Modified race, which was slated for 71 laps in honor of the No. 71 car used by Harpe. Dan Speeney was the runner-up, followed by Mitchell Wright. Crum, who was the fast qualifier, took fourth and Dale Ogburn placded fifth.
In Mini Stocks, Brandon Crotts took the top spot in the 20-lapo feature. Chuck Wall was second, followed by Tyler Busch, Jay Hemmingway and Matt Alley.
Caraway Speedway is off until July 19, when there will be inductions into the Wall of Fame.
CARS Tour puts on show
Jared Fryar of Trinity claimed the CARS Tour race July 2, when the circuit made its annual stop at Caraway Speedway. He has won three times at the track.
Fryar, who was the tour’s 2020 champion, picked up his second victory of the year. This is the first time that Fryar has claimed multiple victories in the same year on the tour.
“We’ve won them and lost a lot of them, so to win two in one year is awesome,” Fryar said. “Things are clicking so good right now for me and my team.”
Kaden Honeycutt was the runner-up in the 26-driver field. Tristan McKee, Ronnie Bassett Jr. and Doug Barnes Jr. rounded out the top five.
Loftin, in his first race of the week at the speedway, was ninth and Brandon Ward followed in 10th and Dylan Ward ended up 15th.
Brandon Lopez was a first-time winner on the CARS Late Model Tour, topping a field that began with 16 entrants. He began in the 10th position.
Brody Gunter, Tyler Reif, Mason Walters and Cody Ware were in second through fifth place.
