ASHEBORO — A new event organized to bring customers to downtown Asheboro is scheduled for later this week. “Sip & Shop” is described as an opportunity for residents and visitors to taste specialty wines while exploring businesses. It will be held from noon-4 p.m. Feb. 22. Uwharrie Charter Academy will send 13 wrestlers to the state tournament after an impressive run through the Class 1A East Regional on Saturday at Rosewood in Goldsboro. UCA’s regional champions were Ayven Virasone Chitavong (106 pounds), Brandon Jordan (144), Lorenzo Alston (157), Aiden Foster (165) and Michael Shropshire (215). It’s part of the Randolph County Comprehensive Transportation Plan. A Comprehensive Transportation Plan is a long-range view that will assist local governments in making transportation decisions for the next 25-30 years. This includes aspects such as highways, bicycles, pedestrians and public transportation and rail.
