Kiwanis Club will hold 75th Pancake Day

ASHEBORO — A 75-year tradition will continue next week at the Asheboro Armory. The Asheboro Kiwanis Club will hold its annual Pancake Day on Tuesday, March 19. The club will offer pancakes, sausage and beverages for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and supper from 3:30-8 p.m. Patrons can opt for dine-in, take-out, or drive-thru during those times. Prior to 2020, the club offered breakfast options but has eliminated the early shift since. The Pancake Day event is the primary fundraiser for the Asheboro Kiwanis Club and dates back to the 1940s. Randolph approves funds for RCC Liberty campus

The Randolph County Board of Commissioners met Monday, March 4, considering utility funding, real estate purchases for Randolph Community College (RCC), and other issues. RCC was seeking $1.5 million to acquire a 22-acre tract of land for the college’s new Liberty Center, designed for workforce development and expansion. Missing Randolph County man found

ASHEBORO – A Randolph County man who had been missing for several weeks has been located in Alabama. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Craig Cox, 43, was located in Hoover, Alabama, during the weekend. Cox had been entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. He had last been seen near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in mid-February. Reports had come back to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department that Cox had entered Mexico. He had re-entered the United States in Texas. The last known whereabouts for Cox in North Carolina had been Feb. 12 in the Siler City area.…

ASHEBORO – Randolph County will have at least one new county commissioner following the 2024 election. Challenger Lester Rivenbark of Asheboro headed the Republican field in Tuesday’s primary for the District 5 seat. Rivenbark received 8,479 votes for a safe lead on repeat commissioner candidate Chris McLeod, a Denton man who had 6,031. Incumbent Maxton McDowell of Asheboro had 4,713 votes. Rivenbark and Democrat Jane Ledwell-Gant will be on November’s ballot. Total turnout in Randolph County was at 24.2 percent of registered voters. There were 23,190 voters. More than 9,000 turn out for early voting in Randolph County

ASHEBORO – There were 9,245 voters casting ballots in early voting in Randolph County. That was the final tally reported by the Randolph County Board of Elections on Saturday. Saturday marked the heaviest turnout for early voting with 1,294 voters. That was slightly higher than Friday’s 1,241. Early voting began Feb. 15. The primary will be held Tuesday, when voters must report to their designated precinct in order to cast a ballot. A photo ID is also required. ASHEBORO – A Franklinville man was expected in Randolph County District Court today to face murder charges. Randolph County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Roy Clay Williams, 54, for murder on Tuesday, after responding to a report of gunshots and finding a woman dead at the residence on Clark Avenue in Franklinville.
