Asheboro’s Parks claims Carolinas Super Senior Championship victory in golf tourney

(Carolinas Golf Association photo) Charlie Parks of Asheboro won the Carolinas Super Senior Championship’s 70-and-older division last week at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill. “I always love to play and I’m playing pretty good right now,” Parks said. Parks shot rounds of 71 and 67 for a total of 7-under-par 138. Southwestern Randolph, track and field Shelton capped his high school career by competing in the Class 2A state meet for track and field. He qualified as a high jumper, finishing 11th in the meet in Greensboro. Shelton was the only entrant from Southwestern Randolph in this year’s state meet. He had success in other events as well during the past season. He competed in some competitions as a triple jumper. HIGH POINT – High Point Rockers team chairman Coy Williard Jr. died during the weekend following a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). The Rockers wore patches with “Coy” on their jerseys during Sunday’s 5-1 victory against the visiting Charleston Dirty Birds at Truist Point. Some members of the Williard family were in attendance at the game. A moment of silence was observed prior to the game. Williard died Sunday at age 79.
