ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Brady Collins

Providence Grove, football, basketball, golf Collins excelled throughout the school year, capped by his All-Piedmont Athletic Conference status in boys’ golf as a senior. Collins had big impacts during his career in football and basketball as well. He also had been a member of the baseball program. A linebacker, Collins was among the state’s leading tacklers during the 2024 regular season in football. Collins was the PAC runner-up in golf. He was a multi-time all-conference selection in football and golf. He was picked for all-conference in basketball for 2023-24.

Prep roundup: Wheatmore’s Marshall claims PAC golf title; UCA girls add to soccer win total

ARCHDALE — Ryan Marshall’s even-par 72 was the winning score in the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament for boys’ golf last week at Holly Ridge Golf Links. Providence Grove was the team champion, with three golfers among the top 10. Marshall, also last year’s champion, posted 37 on the frontside and 35 on the back nine. Brady Collins of Providence Grove was the runner-up with 76, followed by Eastern Randolph’s Emmitt Frye (77), Trinity’s Bo Earnhardt (78) and Providence Grove’s Cooper Wright (79). The softball season opener for 2024 Class 2A state champion Southwestern Randolph didn’t go well in a 15-4 loss at North Stanly in a rematch of last year’s West Regional finals.
